Failure to Hire Sample Letter (Written by Applicant)
To Whom It May Concern:
I am applying for a position with your company, and I am submitting this letter to notify you of my need for religious accommodation. It is a form letter that has been prepared by attorneys for my church, the Seventh-day Adventist Church, because of the increasing number of problems church members have in obtaining employment.
As a Seventh-day Adventist, I observe the biblical Sabbath from sundown Friday to sundown Saturday, and refrain from work during those hours. I am available to work at any other time, including Sundays and holidays. I am willing to work when others wish to have off, such as on the major holidays, Christmas, July 4th, etc.
I am confident that your company is committed to fulfilling its legal obligations, including the obligation to refrain from religious discrimination, as governed by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. Section 2000e et. seq., and applicable state law. Church leaders have found that in nearly every case, employers can adjust schedules to accommodate the Sabbath needs of an Adventist employee. Church leaders have also found that employers have been very satisfied with the integrity and work ethic of Adventist members who faithfully observe the Sabbath.
In other words, I am urging you to consider that providing me with due consideration in the hiring process, and giving me a chance, you will obtain a more faithful and conscientious employee who will provide good service to your company, with a great attitude.
Thank you for your consideration of this request.
